In 1983 the British and Irish Lions toured New Zealand. Led by Andy Dalton they defeated the British & Irish Lions tourists by 4–0 in the Test Series. The team included the likes of Stu Wilson, Bernie Fraser, Steven Pokere, and Dave Loveridge in the backs. And the formidable Gary Whetton, Andy Haden, and Murray Mexted in the Forwards.
All Blacks open with a victory in the First Test

The All Blacks won the first Test 16-12. Played in Christchurch with a crowd of 52,000. Try scorers were flanker Mark Shaw crossing after a flowing three-quarter move which saw two changes of direction. And the involvement of both wingers, Bernie Fraser and Stu Wilson.

18th June 1983 Rugby match – Second Test New Zealand defeat the British & Irish Lions in dreadful conditions

The second test was played in Wellington at Athletic Park. And the weather in New Zealand produced its usual gale-force winds. Captain Andy Dalton opted to play with the wind in the first half. New Zealand’s took a 9-0 lead into the break.

But, the All Blacks forwards rucked and drove superbly. Scrum-half Dave Loveridge produced a truly classic performance. And New Zealand’s supreme discipline under pressure denied the Lions a single kickable shot at goal. The game finished in defeat for the Lions tourists who were unable to score a single point.
All Blacks inflict whitewash on Lions tourists

In the Third Test. The Lions scored two tries to one. But again fell victim to the All Blacks in foul conditions. As the hosts’ pack and Loveridge combined in another definitive display of wet-weather rugby. Stu Wilson scored their only try. Drawing level with back-rower Ian Kirkpatrick as the All Blacks’ all-time leading try-scorer with 16.

By the time his All Black career had ended, following the final test at Auckland. He was three ahead of Kirkpatrick. His hat trick was the highlight of a devastating display of fifteen-man rugby which produced six tries in a 38-6 win.

A series four-nil series whitewash of the touring British & Irish Lions had been achieved. And the 1984 All Blacks teams dominated world rugby.
